Microsoft’s Office 2013 Web Apps Final Version Released

Microsoft has just announced that it rolled out the final version of Office 2013 Web Apps and is now delivering the latest updates to all SkyDrive and users.

The Office Web App Preview was released in July and the company claims that more than 750,000 users have tried the new web-based Office suite.

The final version however comes with a wide array of improvements that include enhanced touch capabilities, so it also supports gestures such as pinching, swiping, holding, and dragging specifically aimed at tablet users.

What’s more, the company says it focused a lot on performance, so the 2013 version of Office Web Apps is up to 300 percent faster compared to previous contraptions.

“Just as important as features that you can physically see and use are things like how fast something feels. We’re always looking for ways to make viewing and editing your documents in the web apps as snappy as possible, so you spend less time waiting and get things done faster. Compared to the previous version of the web apps, documents now render about 30% faster with the latest updates!” Microsoft said.

Working with Office 2013 Web Apps is as easy as logging into your SkyDrive account and hitting the “Create” button. It lets you create new Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote projects, just like you’d normally do in the desktop version of Office.

All files are saved right into your SkyDrive account, so you can access them from any other location, as long as you have an active Internet connection.

The Web Apps can be loaded with most web browsers on the market, but for the best experience, Internet Explorer seems to be the best choice.
