Apple Introduces the 4th-Generation iPad with A6X Chip

Featuring the same 9.7-inch Retina display used in the iPad 3, a fourth-generation iPad now exists featuring an Apple-designed A6X chip, FaceTime HD camera and faster wireless performance. It’s basically the iPad 3, revamped.

Thanks to the all-new A6X SoC (system on a chip) the new, fourth-generation iPad delivers up to twice the CPU and graphics performance of the A5X chip used in the iPad 3.

“The new A6X chip inside iPad is up to twice as fast as the previous-generation A5X chip, and it delivers up to twice the graphics performance, without sacrificing battery life,” Apple states on the marketing pages of the new iPad.

“Which means even the most advanced apps are smooth, responsive, and incredibly lifelike,” the computer company adds.

The tablet boasts the same 10 hours of battery life in the same design as the third-gen iPad, and includes a new FaceTime HD camera, and twice the Wi-Fi performance of the previous-generation model.

Finally, the iPad 4 offers support for additional LTE carriers worldwide, Apple said.

Both the newly-launched iPad mini and the fourth generation iPad feature the smaller and more convenient Lightning connector which connects to cameras, SD card adapters and VGA or HDMI digital video.

The existing iPad Smart Covers and the iPad Smart Case are compatible with the fourth generation iPad, Apple also confirmed.

The fourth generation iPad will begin selling through the Apple online store, Apple’s retail stores, and select Apple Authorized Resellers on November 2.

Initial batches will be shipped worldwide. Countries lined up for shipping on November 2 include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The fourth-gen iPad ships with iOS 6 – the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system – pre-installed.
